A new feature called "Message Yourself" is rolling out to iOS users.
What you want to know
WhatsApp is rolling out a useful new feature for the iOS platform.
It is dubbed "Messenger Yourself", which allows you to chat or store messages with yourself.
They would be end-to-end encrypted and the feature is currently in beta for Android users.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is one of the best messaging apps out there, with its end-to-end encrypted chats also offering a lot of features. A new feature in the works that would be released is dubbed "Messenger yourself". It is said to be available in a stable version for iOS users right now.
As noted by WABetaInfo, the new feature allows users to send messages to their own phone numbers. For clarity, WABetaInfo's shared screenshot gives us a clear image of the feature that will look like WhatsApp users' home screens. It will appear as a chat just like other contacts on the conversations page.
Although it appears in the messaging platform's contact list, it is addressed as "You" next to your own contact name. The report further mentions that this feature can also be found on all your linked devices including your smartphone or computer. It is unclear if it would also be seen on the web version of WhatsApp alongside the dedicated native app.
Most importantly, like other one-on-one and group chats, "Message Yourself" conversations must also be end-to-end encrypted.

The feature is officially rolling out to iOS users with version number 22.23.74. Apparently, iOS users were able to locate their own numbers previously, although the feature was removed earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the feature is currently available through WhatsApp beta for Android devices with version number 2.22.24.11, according to WABetaInfo. The functionality is quite similar on both platforms.
The "Messenger Yourself" feature is certainly not new or unique to WhatsApp. A similar feature is available on rival Signal, dubbed "Note to self". While it doesn't let you chat with your phone number, it does pop up in chat for quick notes, addresses, or documents, to name a few.
Telegram also has a "Saved Messages" feature that works in a similar way. Social apps and business apps like "Slack" also allow you to chat with yourself, which can be an easy way to transfer notes or files between devices. We hope this new WhatsApp feature works the same way.
It looks like WhatsApp is introducing some new features, and some have also appeared in the testing stages recently. Earlier this week, WhatsApp tested a new companion mode that can connect to another phone or tablet. As for new features, WhatsApp introduced a new Communities feature earlier this month. It allows you to consolidate current WhatsApp groups under one roof.
